All Aboard! Eurovision Song Contest 2018 started!
In the Portuguese capital – Lisbon, the grand opening ceremony of the international song contest “Eurovision-2018” was held. The ceremony was held on the riverbank near the Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology. The participants of the “Eurovision” were welcomed by four TV presenters. This year, the Eurovision organizers replaced the traditional red carpet on the blue, according to the ocean theme of the current song contest.
The Eurovision Song Contest is an annual song contest held since 1956 between the member states of the European Broadcasting Union.
Eurovision Song Contest 2018 will become the 63rd Eurovision Song Contest, which will be held from May 6 to May 12 in Lisbon, Portugal. It will take place for the first time in Portugal following the country’s first victory at the 2017 contest in Kiev, Ukraine with the song “Amar pelos dois”.
The theme of the contest, All Aboard!, was presented on November 7, 2017 at a press conference in the Lisbon Oceanarium. The visual design of this year’s competition has oceanic motifs that hint at the location of Lisbon and Portugal on the Atlantic coast and the history of the country’s seafaring. Along with the main emblem depicting a stylized seashell, twelve additional emblems were designed to symbolize the various aspects of the marine ecosystem. The Executive Supervisor of the Contest, Jon Ola Sand, said that the themes and logos “resonate with the history of Lisbon and underscore the core values of Eurovision, including diversity, very nice. The ocean connects all of us and its diversity can be a good inspiration for each of the participants.”
In the Semifinals, all the participating countries, except for the G-5 countries, and the winning country of the past competition – Portugal, take part. All other countries will be divided between two semi-finals of 18 participants in each. Semifinals will only be able to vote for the participants of one semi-final and three countries that have automatically gone to the finals (which will determine the lottery ceremony).
The first semi-final will be held on May 8, the second – on May 10. The final of the competition is May 12th.
Participants of the contest actively conduct rehearsals of their perfomances, and meanwhile bookmakers have made new bets on the winner. As before, the first place is predicted by the original Israeli representative Netta, also called the “second Adele”. Elina Nechayeva was the second position earlier, but now her place was occupied by representatives of Bulgaria – the group Equinox with the song “Bones”. The third place is still the representative of the Czech Republic, Mikolas Josef, and his song “Lie to Me”. According to the most recent data, the following countries were among the 10 leaders: Israel, Estonia, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Australia, Sweden, Belgium, Norway, France and Greece.
